If you are getting engaged, the engagement ring will be the second most significant aspect of the event. The day of the proposal will come and go, as may any celebratory party. What matters most will then be the process and preparations from there to the wedding, followed by the ring.

While your upcoming marriage will be the ultimate consequence, this ring will be something that is to be worn day after day, a sign not just of a day but the beginning of a commitment that you hope will be for life, second only in this regard to the wedding ring itself.

What that means is that the choice of ring matters a lot; the wearer will want to display something stylish, beautiful and, above all, something that reflects the character of the couple and the marital partnership that will follow.

If this all sounds a bit deep, the simplest way to think about it is this: If you are about to get engaged, do you want a ring that you will be delighted to wear every day and if so, what should it look like?

What Are The Best Reason To Consider A Bespoke Ring?

There are several considerations to bear in mind, each of which could be a good reason for considering a bespoke design.

·       Do you want to copy fashions, such as what your friends have done, or celebrity trends?

·       What will fit your budget?

·       Do you want it to be something significantly different to what everyone else has?

·       Should it include some element that makes it special to you as a couple?

If the first of these is what you want to do, there are plenty of examples you could be inspired by. That doesn’t mean you should copy the very latest thing a celebrity has done (unless you see Katie Price as a role model), but you can certainly look at a few examples for ideas.

Whether it is the vintage style of diamond cut favoured by Taylor Swift and her fiancé Travis Kelce, or the Marquise style worn by Selena Gomez, there is much to consider.

Since these rings will have been eye-wateringly expensive, you won’t be able to copy what they did, but you could seek a bespoke ring that at least captures some of the style, perhaps with a smaller diamond, for instance.

You may even note that many celebrities, rather than following fashion or reviving older styles, have gone down the bespoke route themselves, a recent example being that of Dove Cameron and Damiano David.

How Can A Bespoke Engagement Ring Fit Your Budget?

Budgets will be a consideration for everyone, based on factors such as income, how much you want to spend on the wedding itself, how soon the wedding will be (which determines how much you can save) and who is funding it all.

However, it may be a bit extreme to go down a route as cheap as the pre-Christmas Aldi ‘Kevin the Carrot’ themed £10 engagement ring, with its Christmas character depicted in the store’s 2025 Christmas advert getting engaged to his vegetable sweetheart Katie.

That ‘One Carrot’ gimmick might have been liked by a few people, not least as Aldi produced a survey saying some people would be happy to be engaged with a novelty ring, but it’s not the sort of thing you would be likely to want to wear for life.

What Can Make A Bespoke Engagement Ring Truly Personal?

Having considered issues of inspiration and budgets, you can then discuss what kind of elements might make a ring truly personal to you two. For example, if you share a favourite colour, a matching gem could be ideal.

This would work especially well if it is red or blue, as corundums (rubies and sapphires) are very hard (9 on the Mohs scale), but a green diamond or fancy sapphire would be better than an emerald, as the latter is softer (7.5-8 on the Mohs scale) and prone to chipping.

Another element of a bespoke ring you could consider is a design that incorporates motifs, shapes or inscriptions that are meaningful to you.

For example, written inscriptions could include words from famous quotes, religious texts, or even just phrases or nicknames that you share.

Perhaps the best aspect of getting a bespoke ring is that every one of these considerations can be catered for. You can incorporate elements of what others have done with their rings, tailor it to your budget, then add those unique touches that make it extra special to you.
