The idea of getting bespoke jewellery appeals to many people and it can be ideal for special occasions. That may include annual events such as anniversaries, Valentine’s Day or birthdays, but the most special times are engagements and weddings.

By its very definition, bespoke jewellery can be just about anything you want it to be. That will include choices of different metals and gems, styles, inscriptions and motifs, or other features that mark out a ring, necklace, brooch or other item as unique and special.

Some will take a bit of inspiration from different existing styles, especially if they are being worn by famous people. However, one recent development may challenge some popular ideas about the choices you might make.

Is Zendaya Wearing A Secret Wedding Ring?

American actress, singer and producer Zendaya made a few headlines early last year, when she got engaged to actor Tom Holland, with jewellery enthusiasts noticing the 5-carat cushion-cut diamond ring on a yellow or white gold band she was wearing.

In itself, this seemed a somewhat typical style for a famous woman, with a large solitaire diamond being a common sight in recent celebrity engagements.

However, the latest development has got a lot of tongues wagging. Zendaya appeared at Paris Fashion Week with a very simple, plain gold band on her ring finger. This has added to rumours that she and Holland have got married in secret.

At the time of writing, no confirmation has been forthcoming. But if they have been wed, it may come as a surprise that the opulence of the engagement ring contrasts so much with the simplicity of the wedding band.

If this is a wedding ring, the other questions will concern who designed it and whether there were any bespoke touches.

On the face of it, the apparent lack of any intricate detail might suggest there was no special plan and they simply bought a basic ring they liked the look of. Perhaps they felt that a bit of minimalism might make a statement in its own way, in contrast to Zendaya’s other rings.

How Can Bespoke Jewellery Be Minimalist?

However, minimalism and bespoke can go together. Not every unique or unusual touch has to stand out a mile, whether or not the wearer will have their finger photographed by half the world’s paparazzi.

For example, even a plain ring with no gems or only small ones might contain elements like a written engraving. This does not even have to be on the outside. It can be inside so that it can only be read when the wearer takes it off.

Such a message will have the advantage of being private, something the outside world never gets to read, but the wearer knows is there.

This may have an obvious appeal when half the world’s press wants to know what’s on your finger, but even for those who don’t live in the goldfish bowl of celebrity, there is a great appeal in having a secret message that only you and your beloved know is there.

Even if you have some more visible features on the ring or other bespoke item, such as certain gems or perhaps an engraved symbol, this may represent something that the two of you know about, but is a mystery to everyone else - and you never need to tell them!

Therefore, if you are thinking of something bespoke for a wedding or engagement ring, or any other purpose, do not think that minimalism is off the table as an option.

Does Bespoke Minimalist Jewellery Go With A Bespoke Minimalist Wedding?

Of course, it could be the case that the ring is a deliberate red herring, that Zendaya and Tom Holland are just playing with the press and that maybe it is all a distraction so that so many folk think they are already married, they miss the actual forthcoming wedding.

However, given that rumours of a secret wedding have been swirling for a couple of weeks, it may be that the simpler truth is they decided to turn down the volume with a quiet ceremony away from prying eyes, with minimal fuss and minimalist wedding bands.

Some might think jewellery should be worn in the opposite way to Zendaya, with the wedding and engagement rings standing out and other items adopting a lower profile. But there is no hard and fast rule about it.

Indeed, the whole thing about going for bespoke jewellery is that there is no set template, just as you don’t need to let the world know if you are married, whether or not you are someone the whole world seems to be interested in.

Whatever you choose, we will be delighted to work with you on your bespoke jewellery project.
